What to expect on your first consult with an Osteopath

Welcome to Seaview Health Group

We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to start your osteopathic journey with us! From the moment you arrive, you can expect a warm and friendly welcome as you meet your practitioner.

Your consultation will begin with a detailed case history. The more we understand about your health and you as a whole person, the more personalised your treatment and management plan will be, leading to better overall health outcomes.

Depending on your concern, you may need to remove some clothing for your practitioner to examine your body and movements. Don’t worry—we have patient gowns available upon request! This examination helps us identify the root cause of your issue and understand why it has occurred. From there, we’ll provide a preliminary diagnosis and ensure you have a clear understanding of what’s happening in your body and why you are experiencing your pain or discomfort.

Now for the exciting part! You’ll receive hands-on manual treatment designed to help your body return to its natural balance, or homeostasis. We take a holistic approach, working with your muscles, bones, ligaments, nerves, and connective tissues to improve alignment, structure, and function.

We may provide you with some home exercises if this is what is required for your complaint.

After treatment, it’s normal to feel some soreness, tenderness, or fatigue for 48–72 hours as your body adjusts to the physical changes. While some may feel an increase in their symptoms temporarily, others might notice immediate relief. Everyone’s response is unique.

Your treatment plan is always adaptable. Open communication is key during consultations to ensure your comfort and safety at all times. Our practitioners are dedicated to providing relief while helping you better understand your body and the root of your concerns.

We look forward to being part of your journey to improved health and wellbeing!
