Plantar Fascia and Tendonitis

Plantar Fasciitis and tendonitis are a common complaint that occurs more in women than men.

Plantar fascia pain can often be due to a mechanical dysfunction in the foot. It is common in runners, people who are over weight, during pregnancy or in people that wear poorly fitting shoes. The Plantar fascia plays a critical role in maintaining stability and contributing to shock absorption.

What are the signs and symptoms of Plantar fasciitis?

  • Pain is most often felt on the sole of the foot and in the arch

  • Pain felt when walking and weight bearing on the foot

  • It is often worst first thing in the morning as the fascia has been in a shortened position for a long period of time while sleeping

  • Ripping or tearing sensation on the sole of the foot

  • Can often occur after wearing new shoes or poor footwear

What should I do?

  • See our Beaumaris Osteopath or Podiatrist to have a thorough examination and provide you with an accurate diagnosis.

  • Our Bayside Osteo or Podiatrist will provide treatment techniques to the fascia, muscles and joints in the foot, that are associated with the problem.

  • Our practitioners may suggest Shockwave Therapy, which is highly effective in the treatment of tendonitis and plantar fasciitis.

  • Our team will provide you with clear instructions on how to safely care for the injury. We will guide you through your rehabilitation exercises or stretches, so you can recovery fully and prevent re-occurrence

  • Our Osteopaths or Podiatrists may suggest changes to your sport, footwear or activities that may be contributing factors.

  • Our Bayside Podiatry team may suggest using an orthotic to help reduce pain and improve your foot mechanics.

How long will it take to get better?

  • The condition is variable and can often be re-occurring if the initial cause is still present (such as poor foot mechanics).

  • The condition often re-occurs in runners and requires ongoing management and prevention. Our Beaumaris Podiatrist can provide you with the correct footwear advice, which is crucial for ongoing management.
